Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ )

What is Sofia Tech Park JSC?

Sofia Tech Park JSC is a 100% state-owned joint stock company in charge of implementing the first large-scale strategic project in Bulgaria, focused on the development of innovation, new technologies and science. The primary goal of the project is to create a physical and virtual environment in which ideas with broad applicability meet diverse support and opportunities for practical implementation. The focal areas of the park are information and communication technologies, life sciences (biotechnologies, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food) and green energy.

What is Technology and Innovation Network or T+IN?

Technology and Innovation Network (T+IN) is the first science and technology park in Bulgaria. Its aim is to contribute to the creation of a knowledge-based economy by supporting the transformation of research results into successful products with the support of mentorship from business.

The infrastructure of T+IN includes an incubator for startup companies, an Innovation Forum hosting thematic events, a laboratory complex for research and development, and an interactive science center for children and students.

How is T+IN funded?

The first phase of the development of T+IN is implemented under OP “Development of the Competitiveness of the Bulgarian Economy” 2007-2013, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by the national budged of the Republic of Bulgaria. The grant amount is equal to approximately 42 million euro.

The infrastructure of T+IN will be further developed within the current programming period (2014 – 2020) with funds under OP “Competitiveness and Innovations.”

Where is T+IN located?

The park is situated in the area known as The Fourth Kilometer, enclosed between the boulevards Tsarigradsko Shose and Asen Yordanov. The main entrance is located on Asen Yordanov Blvd., opposite the Arena Armeec Sports Hall.

Why Sofia?

Sofia is the city with the highest concentration of science and technology research centers and renowned universities. It hosts most of the institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and most of the companies in our focal areas. Despite its location, T+IN is a project of national and regional importance – its expansion to other cities through its platform is a matter of future development.

What is the difference between an office building and a science and technology park?

The difference is in the concept. The office complex is a mechanical mixture of tenant companies, while presence in the science and technology park is more targeted - companies come to operate in it in order to work closely with universities, research institutes and startup companies. It closes the gap between science and business through access to R&D facilities. The science and technology park  is an environment that offers opportunities for exchange, constant interaction and common results.

Who are our partners?

The main academic partners of T+IN, who are also involved in the development and management of the laboratories, are the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University, the Technical University of Sofia and the Medical University of Sofia. In addition, we have built partnerships with other research organisations, NGOs, startup companies, etc. You can find a more detailed list of our partners HERE.

Who will be present at T+IN?

The main task of T+IN is to gather the entire innovation ecosystem in one place. The incubator will host startup companies who carry out R&D, entrepreneurship organisations, accelerators and university spin-offs. The laboratories will provide opportunities for researchers, startups and SMEs that do not have their own R&D infrastructure. The interactive science museum (Experimentarium), on the other side, is the place where children, students and their parents can learn more about the world of science and technology.
