The President of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev gave official start of the construction of the project "Science and Technology Park"
At an official ceremony on the site of the future Science and Technology Park earlier today (July 24th, 2014) was given the start of the construction of the first three buildings of the park - Laboratories and offices, Business Incubator and Experimentarium and visitors center with pedestrian bridge as well as the whole infrastructure of the site.
The construction of these buildings is the start of the development of the first Science and Technology park in Bulgaria. The main goal of the park is to develop and strengthen the competitiveness of the science and entrepreneurship in Bulgaria through developing the knowledge exchange between the academia and the business. Unique scientific infrastructure will start functioning in the next three years as a result of realizing the project, helping Bulgarian business and creating about 40 000 sq.m. new and renovated buildings and sites.
In his official statement Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria, once again confirmed his believe that through completing this project, Bulgaria will be ranked among highly technology developed countries in Europe and will provide new opportunities for the industries.
„We have to develop the commercialization of the intellectual property and innovative products. We have to make efforts to convince the Bulgarian talented people to stay here and see the opportunities for developing and growing in Bulgaria and not go abroad. That is the project of Sofia Tech Park. I believe in its full potential to support and solve the problems of the Bulgarian economy. I am convinced that the Science and Technology Park will become a platform (virtual and real) for good cooperation between science, universities and business. I feel personally involved in this project and I wish tailwind to the good ideas of all talented entrepreneurs in Bulgaria", shared in his statement Mr. Plevneliev.
Project " Science and Technology Park" has great ambitions to become the technology center in Bulgaria. For achieving this goal, Sofia Tech Park has established cooperation with many partners, among which are leading universities, The Bulgarian Academy of Science, business associations, big international companies, Sofia municipality, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, professional organizations and clusters.
Representatives of these organisations were present at the event. The start of the construction works for the Laboratory complex was symbolically given by the President, Elitsa Panayotova - Executive Director of Sofia Tech Park, Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov - Chairman of the Bulgarian Academy of Science, Prof. Marin Hristov - Rector of Technical University Sofia, Prof. Ivan Ilchev - Rector of Sofia University and Prof. Vanyo Mitev - Rector of Medical University Sofia - representatives of the academia in Bulgaria, because the Laboratory complex will be constructed in close collaboration with the universities. It will consist of 11 laboratories in different fields - BioPharma Labs, bioinformatics, cyber security, cloud computing, etc. - all of them are expected to start operations by September 2015. The start of the other two buildings - Business incubator and Eksperimentarium were given by Ms. Yordanka Fandakova - Mayor of Sofia and Ms. Tsveta Avdjieva- Mayor of Mladost District.
At the ceremony were also Ms. Anna Yaneva - Vice-minister of the economy, Assoc. Prof. Grigorij Vazov - Rector of VUZF, representatives of World Bank in Bulgaria, American Embassy, Italian Chamber of Commerce, cluster organizations, as well as representatives of the three teams of the administration, that have great involvement in the realization of the project so far.
Project "Science and Technology Park" is being developed with the financial support of the Operational Programme " Development of the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy" 2007-2013, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and through the national budget.
