INSAIT Conference

September 30, 2022 10:00 AM – October 1, 2022 6:00 PM

INSAIT – The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology in Sofia will welcome world-renowned scientists in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence at a two-day conference on September 30 (Friday) and October 1 (Saturday), at the John Atanasoff Hall in Sofia Tech Park. The motto of the conference is Emerging Trends in AI and Computing Research, and the aim of the event is to present the technologies of the future, the organizers said.

The event is suitable for software engineers, entrepreneurs, members of the academic community, students, and investors in the technology sector. The conference is held annually as part of INSAIT’s mission to establish the region as a world-class destination for research and deep technology.

The event will feature presentations about machine learning, computer vision, autonomous vehicles, cybersecurity, natural language processing, programming languages, cryptography, computer architectures, and verification, by world-renowned researchers, most of them mentors in INSAIT’s PhD programme.

Among them are Dr. Rupak Majumdar, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, researcher at AWS, and a world-renowned scientist in the field of software verification; Dr. Kristina Toutanova, researcher at Google AI and guest lecturer at the University of Washington, mentor in INSAIT’s PhD programme; Prof. Luc Van Gool, professor at ETH Zurich and researcher at INSAIT; Dr. Drago Angelov, research director at Waymo (the company formerly known as Google’s autonomous car project), a world-renowned scientist in the field of computer vision; Prof. Martin Odersky, professor of programming languages at EPFL and ACM fellow, inventor of the Scala programming language; Dr. Mariana Raykova, researcher at Google, formerly a professor at Yale, and one of the leading scientists in the field of cryptography; Prof. Virginia Vassilevska Williams, Professor of Theory and Algorithms at MIT, Sloan fellow and inventor of the world’s fastest matrix multiplication algorithm; Prof. Otmar Hilliges, Professor of Computer Vision at ETH Zurich; Prof. Qi Zhang, professor of machine self-learning and systems at ETH Zurich; Prof. Dragomir Radev, Chair of the INSAIT Advisory Board and Professor of Natural Language Processing at Yale.

INSAIT is the first institute in Eastern Europe to offer world-class working conditions that match those of leading Western universities and institutes. The Institute is structured as a special unit of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. It was established in partnership with the Swiss ETH Zurich and EPFL, two of the best technological universities in the world. Leading scientists from top American, European, and Israeli universities, and research laboratories guide and advise the institute. INSAIT’s primary focus is on scientific excellence: conducting world-class research, attracting international scientists of outstanding achievement, and training the next generation of students and technology leaders.
