The Bulgarian supercomputer Discoverer will be upgraded with graphic accelerators and memory that will improve the performance of the machine and support companies working in the field of artificial intelligence. In this way, Discoverer will become more effective in training neural networks in various areas of Machine Learning and subsequently in using them as an Artificial Intelligence solution. The upgrade will be carried out under the project of the Petascale Supercomputer Bulgaria Consortium, which was recently approved by Euro HPC JU.
“We are proud to have won a new competition of the European Commission, through which we will expand the functional capabilities of Discoverer Supercomputer in 2023,” said Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sofia Tech Park and CEO of the Petascale Supercomputer Bulgaria Consortium Petar Statev in the “Събуди се” program on Nova TV.
The resource of Supercomputer Discoverer can now be used by the business and the “HPC as a Service” method. The advantage of the cloud service is that companies do not need to purchase an annual license or subscription, but only pay for what is consumed. The integration of Discoverer for this type of service is a joint project with the leading company in this field Nimbix, owned by the high-tech giant Atos. These services can be found on a number of global platforms such as Yahoo Finance.
“Together with our strategic partner Hewlett Packard Enterprise, we have developed two new classes of services that allow businesses to directly engage in modeling and simulation when processing large volumes of data,” Statev explained. Discoverer, HP Enterprise and Metropolitan Municipality teams are starting work that will use the Discoverer’s computing power to optimize a range of processes in the capital and contribute to improving the urban environment and quality of life.
