This development is in the context of the active measures the Government has taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 and has been entrusted to the Science and Technology Park by the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov.
The researchers from the 3D Creativity and New Products Rapid Prototyping Lab of Sofia Tech Park have developed the necessary molds to start mass production using 3D technology. The authors of the design are experts at the Technical University – Sofia.
Starting from today the glasses are in production in the factory of “AREXIM Engineering” in Smolyan, a partner of Sofia Tech Park and the Research and Development and Innovation consortium of the Science and Technology Park. The product is under certification.
The company was visited by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He thanked for the fact that in just 12 days the factory has reorganized its production from components for the automotive, electromechanical and cosmetic industries, and already produces the highest class of safety glasses and helmets for medical professionals. The capacity for production of safety glasses and helmets will reach up to 200,000 per month. Prof. Georgi Todorov, head of the laboratory in Sofia Tech Park, pointed out in front of the Prime Minister, that science and business in Bulgaria have done what has not been done in Europe so far. He underlined that the protection glasses are a unique copyrighted product, they are only imported in Europe, and it takes 6 months to make them in a situation which is not extreme. During the inspection the Prime Minister Borissov was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and the Chairman of the National Operational Headquarters and the Chief of the Military Medical Academy, Prof. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski. “The glasses are very good, tightly fitting, do not sweat at different temperatures, and the helmet already provides full protection. I am pleased with what we have seen, and our colleagues will like them” was Prof. Mutafchiiski’s opinion for the manufactured protective products.
