The seventh edition of Eco Rally Bulgaria 2019 finished in Sofia Tech Park, where the winners of the race were awarded at an official ceremony. The competition is part of the FIA International Calendar and an important round of the Balkan Eco Cup, with electric and alternative powertrains. Sofia Tech Park was a partner of the initiative, which is in the context of one of the main focus areas of the science and technology park – the green energies.
This year, 14 crews with 11 electric cars and 3 hybrid cars joined the race. The starting point was traditionally at Batenberg Square in Sofia. The route was symbolically defined as “On the Way of the April Uprising”, the participants had to take the distance from Sofia to Panagurishte and vice versa. All the participants reached the final in Sofia Tech Park, and the winner was the European drift champion Todor Dunev with his car – Audi e-tron. The second place was given to another representative of the family – Rumen Dunev with electric Nissan Leaf. The crew of Gabrovo Municipality won the third place. Some of the contestants used the charging stations in Sofia Tech Park to recharge their electric cars before they hit the road again. The goal of the race is to popularize the economical and ecologically clean way of traveling, the unique nature and history of the country.
