On April 2, 2025 at 13.00 in Sofia Tech Park will be held an official event for the successful completion of the project for the upgrade of the Bulgarian Petascale Supercomputer Discoverer (www.discoverer.bg), which is part European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).
The opening will start with a visit to the Discoverer supercomputer centre in Sofia Tech Park (111 Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd., opposite the multistorey parking). A press conference will be held at 13.30 in the Incubator Building, The Venue Hall of the science and technology park.

The event will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev, Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, Chairman of the Board of EuroHPC JU Rafal Duczmal, CEO of EuroHPC JU Anders Dam Jensen, university rectors, representatives of scientific organizations, Bulgarian and international high-tech companies and local authorities. A video address will be given by the Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The upgrade project of Discoverer, positioned in Sofia Tech Park, is under EuroHPC JU’s procedure, and it is the first supercomputer from the EU network to be upgraded since its creation in 2021. The upgrade of the high-performance machine is in the context of EuroHPC JU’s mission to deploy a world-leading supercomputing infrastructure in Europe.

Discoverer+ features a new class of functionalities and systems specialized for work in the field of artificial intelligence, thus responding to the growing needs in this technological area of users – scientific communities, business and public sector in Bulgaria and Europe.

The Bulgarian Petascale supercomputer Discoverer has a computing power of 4.5 petaflops and a peak performance of 6 petaflops. The machine is in the TOP 500 world ranking for high-performance machines.  The machine is managed by the consortium “Petascale Supercomputer Bulgaria” with participants Sofia Tech Park JSC, Association “National Center for Computer Applications” and Strategic Center for Artificial Intelligence. The organization brings together the knowledge and over 15 years of experience of Bulgarian scientists and engineers.
