Sofia Tech Park, Sofia Municipality and Health & Life Sciences Cluster Bulgaria signed a memorandum of association that will initiate the creation of the first-ever Bulgarian BioCentre.

The memorandum’s main purpose is the development of the biotechnology and health care sector, as well as the support of the joined work between the institutions, the science sector and the business with the goal of popularizing Sofia as a go-to-place for science, investments and health care technology development. The partners will work to provide the scientists and the entrepreneurs with the necessary information about the methods of creating technological products.

In the past few years, in Sofia can be observed an increasing number of start-up companies in the field of medicine and biotechnology, as well as R&D centres.

The biotechnical center will be a place, where scientists, entrepreneurs, students, SMEs and innovators will be able to find the appropriate intellectual and expert environment that will support them in creating and developing their own business and projects.

It is expected the construction of the BioCentre Sofia to lead to strengthening the relationships and creating new partnerships between the academic, research, industrial and regional community, as well as to position Sofia on the world map of biotechnology and health care sector. Among the centre’s first projects will be the detailed research and analysis of the existing capacity and resources in the field of biotechnology in the country.
